In this discussion here (https://iuf-rulebook-2025.committees.unicycling-software.com/discussions/47), there was an important question raised. I will write down my thoughts, but would also like to emphasize that I don't have a final answer.
Yes, in my opinion and in principle this rule would imply that only the captain may talk to the referee. However, personally I probably wouldn't be too strict with that rule if a player e.g. asks a question if done in a reasonable manner. However, I would allow more discussions / backtalk from the captain compared to other players (so talk yes, argue rather no for players in general, but both yes for captain). Even with the suggested changes, the only rule we could apply is "backchat to referee" listed as a potential 2min penalty (but compared to the other rule violations currently listed as 2min causes, I would first warn a player as a referee).
I would be open to discuss any adaptations or refinements of the current rules to make all potential situations clearer.

I think backchat to referee can be a 2 min penalty. I believe one was given in the 2022 final at unicon.
I dont think a player who is not the captain should be penalised for asking a question of the referee, but the new rule of displaying who is captian allows the referee to say to the palyer talking to them "you are not the captain get your captain to come to me with concerns"

"backchat to referee" is something difference "to ask referree a question". I like mentionend referres option so say "you are not the captain get your captain to come to me with concerns".

I am also with Steven here.

I think backchat to the referee in the current 2 min send off shows that only rude or persistent questions of the referee (by anyone) will result in a send-off.
A non captain is able to ask a question of the referee and the referee is able to say "you are not the captain get your captain to bring your concerns to me"
IF the player then continues to harass the referee with their question, it can turn into backchat. So I don't think the current wording would have a player sent off for questioning the referee, only if they ignored the referee telling them to get their captain to talk to them.
I think this can be closed unless someone thinks otherwise?
2 minutes:
• Intentional delay of the game
• Repeated fouls by the same player
• Intentional foul
• Dangerous play
• Backchat to referee (Constant backtalking to the referee or questioning decisions)

@Benjamin: Do you have anything to add? You raised these questions in the other discussion. Otherwise I will close to clean up.
