Best Tricks and Penalty

From what Ive seen the rulebook atm states now that there are 3 tries for best tricks in finals. Testing 5 best tricks with the two best ones counting just like Skateboarding seemed to work quite well.

Judges seem to have different opinions on giving penalties when the two best tries were really similar tricks. Better explanation could solve that issue. Also some riders may not be aware of when to cancel one of their best tricks if they score lower with a penalty. Not giving a penalty for doing to really similar tricks doesnt seem to be right i feel. For maximum best trick points to trick types on to types of obstacles should be landed in my opinion.

At the moment the maximum penalty we tested out was 50% of the lower scoring tricks. So far no rider has tried to land the exact same trick twice where for me a higher penalty would even make more sense. So I feel like this could be a good spot to start.

Crowd seem to like the energy of 5 best tricks

Agreed.

I would like to have 5 best tricks with the best two scored in the rulebook, with a variety penalty of up to 50%, just like we have had for Summer EUC 23, Winter EUC 24 & 25 and other smaller events.

Even if the participation here is not so great so far, I would suggest creating an official proposal. The 5 best tricks seem to have been tested at various competitions and work well. Perhaps a few more comments will come if there is a concrete proposal.

I really like the 2/5 tricks rule that has been introduced in recent years. Never really been aware of the penalty rule. It would be good to communicate that more clearly. And exactly define what you get penalties for and how much - same trick off different obstacles? same category of tricks, e.g. two different flips, off the same obstacle? Or even things like a different trick off the same obstacle?

I can only talk for my events: The penalty rules has always been clearly stated in the website section about the rulesets being used.

BUT if it was in the IUF rulebook maybe people would realize more, that it exists :)

The variety penalty is giving for similar tricks and/or similar obstacles. So if you do exact same trick on the exact same obstacle (type) you would get the maximum of 50% penalty for the lower scored trick.
Different tricks on the same obstacles or the same trick on different obstacles would score medium penalties and
different tricks on different obstacles low to no penalty (depending on how different they are)
