Current Definition:

Unicon: Unicycling Convention. This word refers to the IUF World Unicycling Championships.

This definition is not so neat.

More over, we can find many different incoherent definitons:
For example:
Unicon 20 website: Unicycling Convention and World Championship
Unicon 21 website: Unicycling World Convention and Championships
IUF website: biennial unicycling world championships
MOU: International Unicycling Championships and Convention

My personal opinion is that the best form is: Unicycling Convention and World Championships

If I would have to submit the proposal for new definition it would be something like this:
Unicon - Unicycling Convention and World Championships. Unicon is an IUF-sanctioned event organized in partnership with a local host.

Comment

I completely agree with you that it is strange when a slightly different “definition” of Unicon is used on the homepage and in the publications for every Unicon. I think it would be very desirable to use a uniform definition here.

I think “Unicon - Unicycling Convention and World Championships” is very good.

Comment

If I may suggest a modification to Jan's definition:

"Unicon = Unicycling World Championships Convention" OR "Unicycling World Championships *and* Convention"

The use of "and" as I am only fluent in English so don't know how it would read in our other major languages. Because "Unicon" is a very generic word, I think it is best to stress "World Championships" first; the convention part is obvious as it's right in the name. Our use of names and terminology create images in the mind of the reader, so we want to be clear that World Championships is what the Convention is built around; non-enthusiasts are generally more interested in Championships than Conventions.

Some of you may recognize this conversation from discussions about NAUCC being a lousy name to describe our national/North American unicycling championships; an ongoing battle...  :-)

To be honest, I don't have a strong opinion on whether “World Championships” or “Convention” should be mentioned first, I would be fine with either option. In fact, I would find it more important that it is used consistently at all and not a new “definition” is used at every Unicon.

I see the aspect that the first one mentioned is stressed more - at the same time, I also have the impression that the last one mentioned is more likely to be remembered. So both variants would be fine for me.

I am in favor of the proposal in its current format. From a marketing/publicity point of view, World Championships is probably the more interesting aspect, so listing it first works for me. The primary "task" of Unicon is the determination of world champions in competition, but the event would be much less interesting without the convention, where people can learn about the sport, improve their skills and share all sorts of things in the world of unicycling, such as off-competition world record attempts, educational experiences, lectures/workshops and entertainment. Unicon is a simple word to encapsulate all of that.

Im OK with proposal.

Are there any further comments on this proposal? If not, I would put it to the vote.
